WHO IS SALTO?

Salto was founded in 2001 with one goal in mind: mechanical key replacement. Based in San Sebastian, Spain, Salto has a large global footprint. Its North America headquarters is located in Atlanta, GA.

WHAT DO WE DO?

Salto bridges the gap between traditional wired access control and mechanical keyed locks. As a hardware manufacturer, Salto has a lock for almost any door type. With different finish and handle options available, you can match our hardware products to your desired esthetic.

HOW DO WE DO IT?

Salto uses a patented technology called Salto Virtual Network, or SVN for short. SVN means locks can be online or offline because they utilize data-on-card technology. This means access rights are on the credential you carry, and when you present the credential to a lock or reader the unit looks for its identity on your credential. If you have permission, it writes an audit and checks the unit's battery status and goes back to sleep.

SALTO INFRASTRUCTURE

Perimeter and high security doors will have a card reader wired back to a controller. Those will act as updater points. You can add wireless locks to any other doors in the building and have them be offline or connect them to a gateway or auxiliary node to make them “Wireless Real Time” for improved and expanded functionality. With inputs and outputs from the controllers or auxiliary boards, functions like elevator control, overhead door monitoring, and more, can be done.
BATTERY LIFE

Battery life is measured in transactions. On average, you are getting around 50,000 transactions out of a set of batteries for a lock. Salto uses standard alkaline batteries so you see a steady decline in battery life. That helps Salto keep a live status on the battery life of the locks on your system.

Salto has many credential options including cards, keyfobs, silicone wristbands, stickers, and mobile credentials.
Salto controllers control up to two (2) wired readers and have six (6) inputs and four (4) outputs per controller for monitoring contacts, controlling strikes, and more
Salto wired readers can be ordered in either black or white in an ANSI single gang size or mullion mount. You can also order the ANSI with or without a keypad.
Salto uses gateways and auxiliary nodes to communicate with wireless locks in a real time function. You can conduct live audits, remotely unlock/lock doors, and send cancelled card information to locks real time.

SVN (SALTO VIRTUAL NETWORK)

Salto Virtual Network (SVN) is how Salto facilitates data on card technology. SVN carries all of the access rights of a user, conducts audits of where they have been, and checks battery status of the locks a user has opened.

Once the credential is presented to a wired reader or online updater lock, all of the audits and battery statuses are downloaded off the credential, are timestamped, and are sent to the software. The credential is also updated with changes in access rights and is revalidated (if it is setup to do so).

Wired readers and online updater locks will also write the latest list of cancelled credentials on the credential so it can deliver that message to any offline locks it is presented to.
WIRELESS REALTIME

Wireless Realtime is when a wireless lock uses a gateway or auxiliary node as a means to get updates and push information directly to the software every few seconds. It allows you to remotely control doors, initiate a lockdown, and not have to worry if someone doesn’t return a cancelled credential.

OFFLINE LOCKS

If a wireless lock is not communicating to a gateway or auxiliary node, it is in offline mode. In offline mode, the lock simply waits to be woken up by a credential. Once awake, the lock looks for its identity on the credential, checks to make sure there are no time limitations, and allows access. Afterward, it writes an audit, checks battery status, and then goes back to sleep.

CANCELLING CREDENTIALS

Cancelling a credential in the software sends a message to all wired readers and online updater locks that the credential has been cancelled. When a credential is presented to any of those locks, it gets the latest list of cancelled credentials and passes that information to all offline locks it is presented to.

CREDENTIAL EXPIRATION AND REVALIDATION

You can set expiration dates on a credential to control how long that person has access to the system. You can also set a revalidation time period such as every 24 hours. To revalidate the credential, simply present it to any wired reader or online updater lock.

WANDERING INTRUDER

Wandering Intruder allows you to set the number of times a credential can be presented to a lock it doesn’t have access to in a custom time period, for example, three times in five minutes. After the last invalid read, the credential will be wiped clean as it has been perceived to have been lost or stolen.

MOBILE CREDENTIALS (JUSTINMOBILE)

Mobile credentials are a great way to remotely provide someone with long-term or temporary access. Since the phone has network connectivity, Justin Mobile can send live audits to a system no matter where the lock is. Access rights can be redistributed to a new user if the former user should no longer have access, gets a new phone, or gets a new number. The first year of JustIN Mobile is included at no charge.
